Theatre Thursday - Atonement

Set in 1935 in pre-war England, the "Tallis" family country estate sits on a lush, green sprawling lawn. Inside, the interior decor is primarily florals in rose and green shades, bringing the outside in.

Above: A photograph of the main room has extremely high ceilings and extensive molding and carvings, however, the floral print wallpaper and slip covered sectional give the space a country cottage decor. There are numerous rugs in the room, all different, each defining a separate grouping of furniture.

Above: In the film, the numerous rugs are replaced with a large, pastel aubusson style rug. The dark green drapes are replaced with a lighter, cream floral fabric similar to the wallpaper. Semi-opaque shades have been added to allow the light to filter in and glow. A round tea table is placed with the sectional in the bay window.

Above: Gold gilt frames hang against the floral wallpaper, reminding the views of the Tallis family wealth.
